Baby Jesus sleeping in his manger, as his parents look down and a few wise visitors bring gifts. Sheep, donkeys and the occasional camel roam the stage, whilst a nervous star and an over-enthusiastic tree blend into the background. The nativity play. A tradition and staple in schools that should remain until the end of time. Happy children sing, whilst proud parents watch their own little angels bring new life to the oldest tale. Christmas is here but it’s not all about the presents. Jesus is born and he brings gifts that will last a life time, if we listen.
“Bah humbug! No need for Jesus, God or any of that old shite.” Ok then, what do we replace it with? Traditions become traditions because the stories and meanings stand the test of time. As with the nativity, it shows the lord shining down and guiding the way to salvation. Showing you a different path to walk down, a different path that leads you to greatness, or simply a different path from the one of destruction you are currently on.
“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, that got deep quick!” A little bit of philosophical meaning with a biblical outcome. On a serious not, help is there if you need it. Christmas is the easiest time to reach out and ask for help and guidance as people are always more charitable over the holiday’s. I like to think that nobody wants to see other people suffer, especially in silence. As it states in the good book..
“For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” Mathew 7:8
Even if you are not a believer in the divine, you can still take inspiration from these words. You don’t need to look up to the heavens and pray. Try trusting your fellow man, your family and friends around you. Life can get dark but there is always a light even in the worst circumstances. Though, I will admit sometimes, you really have to go looking for it. The illusion people fall for though, is believing that once they step into the light they will forever be saved. Sadly, that is not the case. It’s a battle to get there and as soon as you win, more than likely, you will be back out in the shadows. That’s why they say ‘happiness is fleeting moments in time’. Embrace them when you’re in them.
The case for Christ in Christmas shouldn’t be a debate, but sadly it is. All I can see are the positives, love and the joy it brings. Baby Jesus will celebrate his big day tomorrow and I pray that you join him. Christmas is a time for miracles and blessings for all. So here’s hoping you have a merry Christmas and maybe a little spark of Christianity might find the light within.
I’ve been studying anthroposophy and it has deepen my understanding of what Jesus did for us and deepen my appreciation.
Imagine being a normal person and purifying yourself, putting aside your own will to take on the great Christ spirit.
And then to allow yourself to be sacrificed. Imagine devoting your whole life to humankind and then having them put you to death.
It’s a soul, shaking experience to actually understand the depth of what Jesus did for us.
An incredibly humbling understanding.
Imagine that Jesus was your child and having to watch him go through this.
Mary also sacrificed for us.
